So Long And Thanks For All The Takes: A Musical Tribute To Mike & Mike In The Morning

To borrow a joke from a long-haired, glasses-wearing comedian I saw doing stand-up outside Rio Di Janero a few months ago- “I used to listen to Mike and Mike every single day. I still do, but I also used to do it too.” These guys changed the way sport’s radio was presented forever and the airwaves will be empty without them. On surface level there was no reason to expect Mike and Mike to change the face of sport’s radio and create a show that lasted so many years that Roy Moore woudnt try to fuck it. The formula was simple- a classic “Odd Couple” pairing of a former NFL player and a guy whose most atheletic feat is apologizing to his wife for ejaculating prematureley. But simple works.

We do like to joke around about the Mikes but in realty they were trailblazers. Would me and Big Cat have our own show if it werent for Mike and Mike? Probably not. There had never been a show about two guys talking about sports together before and there might not ever be one again. Perhaps the most underated thing they did was show up on time to a job that started at 6 AM every day for 18 years. That alone is worthy of our acknoledgement, to say nothing of the fact that they singlehandedly kept Darius Rucker relevant in the 21st century. That takes real talent folks, and while Im eager to see what Wingo and Golic have to offer, there is a whole in my heart that can only be replaced using the services of a heavy duty Mahendra tractor- thats Mahendra tractor: the official tractor of Mike and Mike in the morning.
