Beer League Heroes: Stick Tricks With New York Lizards' Attackman Matt Gibson
In case you missed it, I got a chance to try out for the New York Lizards a couple weeks ago to make the jump from the Beer Leagues to Major League Lacrosse. Unfortunately, when the Lizards put out their official 25-man roster, Barstool Jordie was nowhere to be found on the list. So I had a back up plan in mind. I’m a lefty attackman. Matt Gibson is a lefty attackman. I figured the best way to handle this would be to go mono e mono with the hombre whose job I was gunning for. One game of L-A-X. Pretty much like HORSE or PIG but only better because it’s lacrosse. Winner gets to stay. Loser goes home and has to throw out all their gear forever.
In case you’re unfamiliar with Gibby, he has some of the best hands in the world. Just take a look at the kind of wizardry he puts together over at StringKing HQ on the regular.
Some of the stuff he’s able to do with a lacrosse stick shouldn’t be humanly possible. What he didn’t know, however, is that I’m a blogger with almost an endless supply of free time on my hands to practice this shit as well. So I was able to give him a run for his money…
But it wasn’t enough as Gibby took home the crown and got to keep that starting lefty attack spot. Which, realistically, was probably for the better since he put up 4 and 1 in the Lizards’ opener last weekend against the Bayhawks.
I’d maybe pass the ball a little more but that’s just me….
