Jordie Goalie Challenge Featuring Austin Kaut Of The Florida Launch
Everybody knows that I’m a Beer League Hero. Michael Jordan. Wayne Gretzky. Babe Ruth. Barstool Jordie. All the GOATs in our respective athletic fields. But what if I told you that a 5’8″ blogger had a chance to go from the beer leagues to the major leagues? As they said, great moments are born from great opportunity. And that’s what I have here, boys. That’s what I’ve earned here. Because on April 9th, I’ll be taking a quick trip up to Long Island to try out for the New York Lizards.
So to prepare myself for the tryout, I went over to Main Line Sports Center in Berwyn, PA to train with the fellas over at Blue Ox Lacrosse. Austin Kaut (@KautOnIt) was an All-American at Penn State and now starts in cage for the Florida Launch. Matt Mackrides was also an All-American at Penn State, an MLL All-Star and currently plays for the Atlanta Blaze. So yeah, I guess you could say these guys are pretty good. Anyway, we got some shots on Austin and if I’m being perfectly honest, he got the best of me. I mean, he’s one of the best goalies I’ll ever have to shoot against so that was expected. However, if you’re just looking at my last 5 shots… well… I hit a post, which everybody knows counts for 2, and scored twice. So that’s 0/5 to start and technically 4/5 to close it out. Plus, you just can’t teach this level of grit to throw your body on the line to make a play.
All I’m saying is don’t be surprised if I have to take a hiatus from blogging this summer because I’m playing professional lacrosse with the Lizards.
Anyway, thanks again to Austin and Matt for letting me swing by to get myself ready. Blue Ox is one of the premier lacrosse training services in the country and Main Line Sports Center is a world class facility. Not even a plug or anything, just a genuine observation.
Also quick shoutout to Warrior for setting me up for this tryout. I think I would have gone 0/10 if I wasn’t using the Warp.
