You're Eating Crazy Pills If You Think The Cubs Are Down For Good

I could easily sit here and shit on the New York Mets for losing a series to the Cubs at a critical junction in the season. It would be easy too and I very much prefer (and enjoy) easy things.

But I'm not in that mood and that's generally not the tone of BBTV this season. We're a weekly update vibe check about the biggest things in our universe. Sure it's good to pound the Mets and listen to their collective moan. But it's also good to live at 30,000 feet because that's what allows for a clear mind, body and spirit. Big picture is the only picture I'm looking at.

On that front, we had Jake Arrieta in studio this week to talk about rebuilding at Wrigley. Culture. Championships. Excellence. You'd be hard pressed to find someone with more firsthand experience turning the Cubs from below-average to World Champions. So on that front it's good perspective.

It's also good to get Jake in studio and hanging around the Barstool Chicago office. We recorded our first In Studio Live Show with two notable baseball guests. That's out Thursday morning and it's a great show.

BIGGER PICTURE - the quality of baseball talk is really growing down the stretch. If you've been following for awhile you'll notice a substantial change in tone and perspective over this year. That's largely because it's been filled with learning lessons and new experiences and a whole bunch of stuff I never knew. Each week I show up feeling smarter and stupider than I did before. Smarter because I'm learning more about the culture. Stupid because I once thought I knew so much more. Important thing is that it's just significantly better baseball conversation and that's the point.

More to come but for now take some comfort knowing we're on the right path talking about the Cubs:

- Nico's bat and athleticism make him critical to the Cubs future

- The free agent SS class is so good you have to pursue one of the names and work it into the roster

- Arms will dictate just how successful the Cubs can be

- The front office has the money and NEEDS to go spend it

- Cubs fans deserve the best available because it's such a special club

We're on to something. All that can turn in the next couple months. For now, stay positive and join me at 30,000 feet.
