Breaking Down The Weekend's NCAA Super Regionals On This Week's Starting 9
Huge weekend in the baseball world with the NCAA Super Regionals taking place. For the uninitiated, consider this the Elite 8 of the college baseball postseason. It’s a huge accomplishment and certainly one programs use to measure their long-term success. But ultimately it’s all about winning this weekend and getting to Omaha for the College World Series - an extremely rare accomplishment for just about every program.
As such, we thought it would be good practice to bring on a college baseball expert in Stephen Schoch. He’s a former All American closer at Virginia turned internet content guy/real-estate agent figuring out the part of life that starts when your career ends. We met last year during my inaugural trip to Omaha and share a special bond in that we had the same college pitching coach.
Stephen joins Starting 9 this week to talk about life in and around the college game. We preview some of the big series this week and drop some names for the casual sports fan to follow. Obviously we don’t expect you guys to have a PhD in college baseball before this weekend and Omaha. But it doesn’t hurt to be somewhat familiar should you find yourself watching the weekend slate. That’s what we’re trying to do here.
Another reason - we’re going to Omaha next weekend for the opening games. Starting 9 + Ben Mintz + Stephen Schoch and a whole cast of characters. Should be a downright fabulous time with the boys at what I call a Bucket List sports destination.
On that note, I’m all jacked up that we get to extend baseball coverage to the college game and CWS for a little bit. As we’ve made clear on the show, there’s so much more to the game than fantasy lineups and fangraphs and playing general manager. My sincere apologies if that’s a shakeup from what you want but that’s how I see it. The MLB is a huge part of baseball but certainly not everything. If you’ve been to Omaha then you know what I mean.
And yes this obviously extends to mens league. Don’t think for one second we’re going a whole baseball season without making a cameo on the diamond. Jake thinks he still has it. I call bullshit. The cameras can tell the truth.
Follow the show so we can do that kind of stuff. At the very least just check it out here.
