Wrigley Field Man On The Street: Why Do The Cubs Suck So Bad?

Go to TasteRealChicago.com for the first ever Father's Day gift bundle. Problem shopping for a loved one? I've got you covered here:

Absolutely massive weekend around Wrigley Field with the Cardinals in town and we were on site to get a taste of the action. Big question on everyone’s mind was What’s Holding The Cubs Back? And turns out a lot of people just think it’s Tom Ricketts. Who knew it could be so simple?

And who knew the Cubs could come so close to winning 4 of 5. Instead they settle for a crushing 2-3 series defeat on the heels of some really bad extra inning play. Super easy to get bad about but instead I won’t. I’ll pivot and be positive with these 3 scorching hot takes.

(1) Patrick Wisdom is so damn legit (when he makes contact). That’s a fact. The advanced metrics on the balls he puts in play are staggering to the point that it deserves constant reminding. He’s a remarkable power hitter and the exact kind of player the Cubs need to hit on repeatedly as they build the next window.

(2) Caleb Killian looked so good and I’m not talking box score. I’m talking about throwing two quality pitches to both sides of the plate as a starting pitcher. I’m talking about 97 throughout his first start with poise and polish. A true bright side now that we’re seeing Miley and Smyly picked the year they signed with the Cubs to rehab themselves back to elite career-saving shape.

(3) Christopher Morel is so electric that I’m actually going to hit you with some hard numbers because he deserves the research. He’s reached safe in all 20 games he’s played, 19 of which have been starts, 10 of which in CF, 7 at 2nd base, 1 at short and then 1 at 3rd. He’s swiping bags and drawing walks (4x the rate of Javy) while being the perfect message to the rest of the farm system that there’s a spot for you in the big leagues. Maybe I’m reading too much into it but he only played just 10 games at AAA and now he’s got a .291/.380/.469 line with tons of momentum from the peanut gallery.

Probably most important though is that this episode is presented by JP Graziano and TasteRealChicago.com... we're running a crazy special for Father's Day. For just $40 you get a full Beef Kit and the original Taste Reach Chicago box featuring one jar each of Mild Giardiniera, Mild Muffuletta, Hot Giardiniera, and Hot Muffuletta. To me that's all about making the steady safe play that will instantly garner your father's approval. End of the day isn't that what we're all looking for anyways?

No clue.
