Mickstape Went To the NBRPA Players Party And Reunited Trill Withers With All His Former NBA Teammates

What a night. What a crew. Me. Ricky B. Davey C. Kenny G. Isiah T. And Me, again. The stars were OUT. It was so great to reminisce with everyone about the battles we had, as well as the “NBA Legends” pin that only us retired NBA legends got to wear. It hurt my feelings that Gheorghe did not remember our summer in 1996-97 as Bullets teammates but it was still nice to see the big galoot. With all the retired NBA Players Parties that I attend, and I attend a lot of them, this was one of the best. It was great to catch up with 2020 Presidential favorite Nancy Lieberman and getting extremely drunk off of Isiah Thomas’ champagne. Just like the old days.

The best part of these events is that the competitive fire never goes away. There was nearly a ballroom argument about who the baddest whiteboy to ever lace up the sneaks was, and I’m certain that if we wheeled out a regulation sized goal, as we had planned, that Dave Cowens and Bobby Dandridge would still be playing 1-on-1 right now. I even saw a competition about who could put away the most hor d’oeuvres! This was a competition that Rick Barry won handedly. Congrats to Rick. For some reason, I was allowed to join the players’ photograph at the end of the night and sign the basketballs to auction off. I’m glad Adam Silver and I could put that nasty spat we had during the last CBA meetings behind us, and he lifted the ban that now allows me within 50 feet of all NBA sanctioned events. It was a great night had by all.

On behalf of Mickstape, I have to send our thanks to Scott Rochelle and all the fine ladies and gentlemen of the NBRPA that helped encourage, plan and participate in our shenanigans. We look forward to hosting our next party January 2019 to celebrate Vince Carter’s 75th birthday and 65th year of professional basketball.

Cheers!
