Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou In A "Hybrid Rules" Fight - Who Wins?
This week on the Spinnin Backfist MMA Show, we're discussing what happens in a Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou "hybrid rules" fight as that was teased by the Gypsy King himself following his retirement from the squared circle. Quite simply, I think there are two possible outcomes for this fight, and it all depends on what "hybrid rules" really means.
If they follows the ONE Championship "hybrid rules" model, which they just tried with Demetrious Johnson vs Rodtang Jitmuangnon, and it goes ROUND 1: BOXING, ROUND 2: MMA, ROUND 3: BOXING - and so on, Francis would likely just have to survive the first round onslaught from Fury and then slam him through the canvas before Tyson knew what hit him, ECW-style....
….and then he'd submit him very easily. I know there's some sweet science guys out there who wouldn't like to hear that, but it's true. I don't think Tyson Fury would ever agree to such a thing, nor should he, as he's the bigger draw here and has nothing to prove, but it'd be fun to watch an MMA guy win one of these circus fights for a change!
On the flip side, if the bout would be contested under a boxing ruleset but the fighters used 4oz mixed martial arts gloves (which has been hinted at), I think Tyson Fury beats the ever living shit out of Francis Ngannou and probably stops him within two or three rounds. I really don't believe Francis would have more than a puncher's chance - and granted, he probably has the best "puncher's chance" in all of mixed martial arts - but Deontay Wilder's power wasn't enough to put The Gypsy King down and I doubt Francis offers much more than him in technical striking.
I think Dana White would agree, as well….
Other topics we covered on this show include:
-Robert Whittaker pulling out of the Martin Vettori fight
-Dan Hardy returning to combat sports - but not mixed martial arts - will take on Diego Sanchez in a boxing match
-Will the UFC re-sign Clay Guida now that he fought out of his contract?
-New "Road to the UFC" tournament/possible Contender Series like show from Singapore
-Who would be a good "tune-up" fight for Conor McGregor ay 170lbs?
….and we debuted a new "FIGHT REWATCH" segment where we looked back on the 2021 Fight of the Year: Justin Gaethje vs Michael Chandler!
