Examining the Biblical Evidence That Humans Lived With Dinosaurs
The story that's out there for the most part is that dinosaurs lived however many millions of years ago and went extinct before humans ever inhabited the Earth. We are thought to have never seen these creatures. But on this week's Macrodosing, I put forth some evidence that possibly presents a new theory: were there dinosaurs living with humans at the time the Bible was being written?
Take this passage from Job 40, where God is describing a creature referred to as Behemoth:
15 "Look at Behemoth,
which I made along with you
and which feeds on grass like an ox.
16 What strength it has in its loins,
what power in the muscles of its belly!
17 Its tail sways like a cedar;
the sinews of its thighs are close-knit.
18 Its bones are tubes of bronze,
its limbs like rods of iron.
19 It ranks first among the works of God,
yet its Maker can approach it with his sword.
20 The hills bring it their produce,
and all the wild animals play nearby.
21 Under the lotus plants it lies,
hidden among the reeds in the marsh.
22 The lotuses conceal it in their shadow;
the poplars by the stream surround it.
23 A raging river does not alarm it;
it is secure, though the Jordan should surge against its mouth.
24 Can anyone capture it by the eyes,
or trap it and pierce its nose?"
Some have hypothesized that this could have been an elephant or hippopotamus, but neither of those animals has a tail that could reasonably be compared to a cedar tree. What did have a tail like that, however, was a Brontosaurus — a dinosaur that also happened to be an herbivore, which would also fit this description.
Additionally, in Job 41, God describes another creature, Leviathan. It is described as having a "double coat of armor" and a mouth "ringed about with fearsome teeth." It is said to have been an incredibly powerful creature which is unaffected by the spears of javelins and treats iron like straw. This could have been a semiaquatic dinosaur like the Spinosaurus, whose seven-foot tall sail on its back would have also created the "glistening wake" behind it described in the Bible that would make someone think "the deep had white hair."
Were these creatures described in Job dinosaurs? Maybe, maybe not. The word "dinosaur" wasn't coined until more than 300 years after the first English translation of the Bible, so we're obviously never going to see that word used. But it certainly seems like they could have been.
In addition to having this discussion on today's episode, we also have a dinosaur draft — which I absolutely dominated — and have Billy break down which dinosaurs are the biggest frauds. Please be sure to like and subscribe and check out the show on YouTube when it goes up later tonight.
