Scientists Just Grew A Fully Functioning Ear INSIDE Of Someone’s Arm, Removed It, Then Stuck It On Their Head So They Could Hear Again
Source - Two years ago, Army Pvt. Shamika Burrage almost died when she was ejected from her car during a crash in Texas. Afterward, when she woke up in the hospital, she wasn’t whole. Her entire left ear was gone.
But the now-21-year-old is on the path to recovery. And due to a procedure hailed as the “first of its kind” in the Army, an ear was reconstructed and “grown” under the skin of her right forearm, according to the Army.
No prosthetics were needed. Instead, plastic surgeons used the soldier’s own cartilage.
The ear was later attached to Burrage’s head by surgeons at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso. The Army said Burrage recovered her hearing and that the operation was a success, according to a statement on Monday.
Italian neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero said a full live human brain transplant could take place very soon during an interview from Vienna on Friday after claiming that Chinese surgeons led by Doctor XIaoping Ren successfully reconnected the muscles, nerves, and spinal column of a decapitated cadaver.
The procedure is one of the most complicated ear constructions in the U.S., according to an ABC News report, and allows for the formation of new blood vessels in the cartilage. This means Burrage will also have feeling in her new ear once rehabilitation is complete, the Army’s statement said.
A lot of people get grossed out by this kind of stuff but I love it. It’s incredible what science can do when the government decides to remove the medical red tape. This story is making headlines now but they were probably doing this stuff in Area 51 in the seventies. Like, I’m sure there are all sorts of government clones and cyborgs walking around that the general public has no idea about. I was going to try to understand the science behind the operation but it’s not even worth it. I’m just going to assume that they cut her arm open, poured some Miracle-Grow in it, and nine months later it birthed a cute little baby ear. It makes you wonder what other appendages scientist can grow? (I’m talking dicks, people.) If I’m unhappy with my weiner can they just grow a new one in my arm and take it out when it’s the size I want? Asking for a friend. This could become a whole new style of plastic surgery; people growing new body parts rather than adjusting the shitty ones they already have.
In all seriousness, Army Pvt. Shamika Burrage’s story is incredible. Not only did she survive a horrific car crash, she was the recipient a fully functioning homegrown ear. Now all she has to do is dress it up with a few piercings. Depending on what crowd she wants to attract I’d go with either the Elton or the MJ.
Really draw some attention to it. Only if it looks good, though, which I’m sure it will. They were Army surgeons, not the people who did Chris Farley’s nose in Dirty Work. Whatever the case, I’m happy for Shamika. Go enjoy the sounds of the world, Sham. You deserve it.
PS: Dirty Work may be one of the most underrated movies of all time.
