I'm Worried About Andy Reid Now That He's Lost Alex Smith

My goodness gracious, hit the music

And now read:

ESPN  The gushing about quarterback Alex Smith by his former coach seemed genuine, which begged the question: Why did the Kansas City Chiefs trade him in the first place?

“I’m not going to tell you we’re in the greatest cap situation in the world,” Reid said. “We made some moves that fit into that.”

That said, Reid remains a big fan of Smith and praised him to various Washington-area media during the NFL meetings in Orlando, Florida.

“He’s highly intelligent,” Reid said. “He’s very competitive and very tough — physically and mentally. He’s seen everything. He’s had a lot of different coordinators so he’s experienced a lot of different offenses. There’s still room to grow and he’s wired that way to where he wants to get better every day. You’ll love that part of him.

“He’s unbelievably easy to coach. I’ve told Patrick Mahomes that he could have bought Alex a castle and that wasn’t enough, to just be in that room with him.”

“The players will appreciate his leadership ability and his consistency,” Reid said. “His ability to change things at the line is phenomenal. You won’t run out of gigabytes with him. His capacity to learn and function at a high rate is second to none.”

“We’re talking about the No. 1 ranked quarterback coming out this year,” Reid said of Smith. “I don’t think he’s hit the ceiling yet.”

I mean I teared up with that music playing and then reading Andy Reid’s thoughts on Alex Smith. People spend their entire lives trying to find the yin to their yang, the peanut butter to their jelly, the Marshall to their Lily, and that was Andy Reid and Alex Smith. I mean the love behind those quotes, just so pure, like talking about an old lover, the one who got away. You could make an argument that every love song that was ever written was actually about Andy Reid and Alex Smith. The entire thing is just so beautiful. They were just meant for each other, I’m sure of it. To mismanage the clock together, to throw checkdowns together, to smash all regular season expectations and fall short of all postseason expectations together.

And now Alex Smith is here in DC. Will he be able to move on to Jay Gruden? Or will he always carry a piece of Andy Reid with him everywhere he goes? The good news is Gruden has no idea how to use timeouts either, so it won’t be the hardest transition in the world.

And Andy Reid now has Patrick Mahomes. I mean….let’s reread what he said about Alex Smith to Mahomes:

I’ve told Patrick Mahomes that he could have bought Alex a castle and that wasn’t enough, to just be in that room with him.”

Just to be in that room with him. The love is too real.

So prayers up to Coach Reid and to Alex Smith. Hopefully he is happy in DC. The good news is we’re his new girlfriend who will do anything to make him happy, so he will be showered with gifts and puppies and whatever other goodies he wants. All so he can move on from this guy:

And that, my friends, is no easy task.
