Sam Darnold Delayed His Pro Day Today Until It STARTED Raining

I don’t think I’ve ever heard that one before. The general “knock” on California quarterbacks is whether they can throw in the rain or not since most of their games are played in the sunny PAC 12 conference. USC’s Sam Darnold was clearly out to prove that myth wrong in his pro day today and when it came to throwing to defender-less receivers he excelled despite the precipitation. It’s really hard to take what you see in a pro day and factor that over what you see in game film, but some good old fashioned rain throwing will help ease some questions. Darnold was throwing missiles.

With about a month to go until the draft it looks like Darnold is the Browns pick at 1 barring anything crazy happening. Browns owner Jimmy Haslem was seen talking to Sam’s parents in the stands today, probably asking them if anyone went to Darnold’s birthday party. Can’t be having another Bo Callahan on our hands.

It is funny how months ago no one wanted to go to Cleveland, but now with their recent additions, a real GM, and a fuck ton of high draft picks it actually looks like a place to be in terms of teams at the top of the draft. Yeah the Giants, picking at 2, are only a few pieces away from competing as well, but they’re stuck in NFC East with the Eagles who are not going away for a long time. The Browns play in the AFC North where no one is trending up. The Steelers have dynamic players, but Big Ben is a bad hit away from retiring, the Ravens have Joe Flacco, and the Bengals will be coached by Marvin Lewis for the rest of time. If there’s ever a time for a QB to really give his franchise a jolt of life it has to be right now. That felt weird to write, but it’s true.
