Nevada Comes Back From 22 Down To Beat Cincinnati
This goddamn Tournament, folks. I mean this had all the makings of being an absolute blowout. It was a blowout. Cincinnati was up 22 against Nevada. This was a Nevada team with really just no depth, shots not falling and play minimal defense. But it held Cincinnati to eight points over the last 11:34 of the game leading to a 77-75 victory.
That was the play that gave Nevada the lead and eventual win. What’s crazy about this is how bad Nevada is as an offensive rebounding team while Cincinnati is one of the best defensive rebounding teams in the country. Josh Hall, really the only bench player Nevada has was able to come up with the rebound and game-winner here.
The story though were the Martin twins. The transfers from NC State scored 35 points and 11 rebounds. Cody led the way with 25 points, but it was Caleb who demanded the ball to tie the game up. As the ball crossed half court, you could see him motion a play call to Cody. He made his way to the corner, got the ball against Kyle Washington and used a jab step to create space before buying the three.
This is the second crazy comeback for Nevada, who beat Texas in overtime in the Round of 64. However, the 22 point comeback is the second largest in NCAA Tournament history just behind the 25 point comeback in the Iona/BYU First Four game in 2012. The Wolf Pack now move on to play Sister Jean, err, I mean Loyola in the Sweet 16 in Atlanta.
What a tournament.
