Now Klay Thompson Is Out With A Fractured Thumb
Add Klay Thompson to the list of really important players on a playoff team to get injured right before the playoffs. He joins a pretty impressive list of Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, Jaylen Brown, Kyrie Irving, and potentially Marcus Smart. If you’re the Warriors the choice is pretty simple right? You hold out Klay and Curry until the playoffs. I think we all know how the Warriors feel about HOU and their ability to win a potential Game 7 on the road, so why risk it? So maybe they’re a little rusty and their first round series goes 5 games instead of 4. When thinking long term for this season, what’s the point of playing either of them again this regular season? The Warriors aren’t going to drop to the 3rd spot, they have a 10 game lead. At 2 back of HOU, they probably won’t catch them either even if he does come back at the end of this month.
The big thing here is the playoffs. The Warriors haven’t really had to deal with any injuries in any of their deep playoff runs. Worrying about Draymond punching someone in the dick yes, but for the most part they’ve been relatively healthy. Yes I know Warriors fans will quickly cry and point out that Steph wasn’t healthy the year they lost, but he only was hurt when he struggled people forget that. When this team is fully healthy, it’s not a shock to say they are pretty unbeatable. But with a hobbled Curry, a guy with ankle issues already, paired with Klay who now has an issue on his shooting hand, the Warriors do become a little more mortal. On some level that has to worry Warriors fans even if they won’t admit it. One rolled ankle for Curry, or one contact play with Klay and who knows what happens.
It just sucks that all these important guys are getting hurt. This is setting up to be one of the more exciting finishes to the season in recent memory, and all I want is to see everyone’s best players healthy and dominating. Now we’re talking about shutting everyone down just to get to the playoffs, and that sucks.
