The Phillies Got Their Guy In Jake Arrieta, Now It's Time To Bring Back The Vanimal
The highest expectation that I think most people have for this 2018 Phillies team is at the very least, they’ll be competitive and fun to watch. It’s not like you’re going to show up to CBP every night and watch them get their doors blown off. There’s plenty of young talent in the organization to be excited for with guys like Aaron Nola, Rhys Hoskins, Vince Valasquez, Nick Williams and Scott Kingery. Not to mention stupid sexy Gabe Kapler coming in his first season as skipper. Then they go out and they sign a vet like Jake Arrieta to show these kids what it takes to win. So yeah, I think the signing was great and everything.
But are the Philadelphia Phillies officially back yet? No. Not exactly. They may be able to play the part as a “contender” for the time being but there’s still a major piece missing to this puzzle before they should actually be considered a legitimate playoff team. That piece of which I am speaking about, of course, is none other than Vance Worley. The Vanimal.
I’m a firm believer that a team needs something special in order to win a championship. Some sort of X-factor that really separates them from every other team in the league. What that X-factor is really doesn’t matter, you just need something. Vance Worley can be that something. The man has bounced around quite a bit since getting traded by the Phillies. He’s been with the Twins, Pirates, Orioles, Nats, Marlins, and now he’s currently with the Reds. But a legend like the Vanimal deserves to be able to just call one place his home. I’m pretty sure the guy still lives here so let’s just do the damn thing. Why the frick not?
You bring in Vance Worley again and the atmosphere at Citizens Bank Park immediately changes every night he’s on the mound. People aren’t showing up to a Phillies game just to get drunk and devour some dollar dogs. People are showing up to see a man throw the ball faster than fuck. They’re showing up to see pure dominance in action. Vance Worley is coming back fucking soon.
