Woman Returns a Christmas Tree to Costco in January Because 'It's Dead'

.

SourceWhile the rest of us were debating where to abandon our trees, one woman decided to take hers back for a refund.

So come January, the woman reportedly wanted her money back for her once lively Christmas tree because it was now dead.

Customers at the Costco in the suburbs of Los Angeles were blown away, and one man couldn’t help but post the rest of the details on Facebook.

“I can’t make this stuff up,” he wrote. “Woman in line at Costco, totally nonchalant, to return her Christmas tree ‘because it is dead’ on January 4.”

Amazingly, she actually did get her money back, according to the post. But not without a little bit of shaming from the store and other customers.

You can say what you want about this woman. And believe me, people are. All of social media and comments sections everywhere are calling her shameless. Saying she has no dignity. Talking about how it’s people like her who drive prices up for the rest of us. She’s being called a loser. But you know what she really is? A winner. A big time, Grade A, top flight, holly jolly winner.

There’s a system. She didn’t create it. She’s not responsible for it. But she’s playing it like Lindsey Stirling plays the violin. She got to see the bright lights of this beautiful Yuletide symbol twinkle in the eyes of her children, fill their hearts with holiday cheer and celebrate the blessings of the Christ child’s birth and it cost her nothing. That’s winning in my book.

And I say this as someone who would never have the balls to pull of this move. Count me among the millions of suckers who would hate myself way more than the cash back could ever offset. But that’s on me. I was raised by a woman who wouldn’t send back a meal at a restaurant. Never mind if it was cooked wrong; even if they mixed up the order and gave her something she didn’t ask for. And it takes all my will to send something back to this day. That is a million times more wrong than this chick who’s just scamming a major corporate retailer.

And this is nothing unusual. I have a buddy who used to work at one of the huge, big-box home improvement chains. And he said one time someone bought an air conditioner in May and brought it back in October saying they changed their mind and didn’t want it. Customer Service told the guy he couldn’t. So the whole staff ended up getting yelled at by the managers who ordered them to just give everybody whatever they want as long as they go home happy. True story.

So these other customers can cry Costco a river, but I won’t. I admire this chick for having more guts than I do. She’s Henry Hill in Goodfellas when he says “For us to live any other way was nuts. Uh, to us, those goody-good people who worked shitty jobs for bum paychecks and took the subway to work every day, and worried about their bills, were dead. I mean, they were suckers. They had no balls. If we wanted something, we just took it.” Merry belated Christmas, lady. You deserve it.
