Larry David Got Absolutely Destroyed For His SNL Opener About The Holocaust

NEW YORK – Larry David is facing criticism from the Anti-Defamation League and others for joking about dating in concentration camps during his monologue while hosting “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend.

David, who is Jewish, noted that disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, who is at the center of the sexual harassment firestorm gripping Hollywood, is also Jewish before going into jokes about pickup lines in concentration camps.

The jokes were met with groans and awkward chuckles from the audience.

Larry David either didn’t get the memo what year it is or he just does not give a fuck – jokes do NOT fly in 2017.  Nothing even remotely sensitive to any person or group of people is allowed to be mentioned out loud in a comedic, satirical, joking, sarcastic, or ironic way.    We’ve clearly seen that when it comes to the written word on a comedy website, but it now fully applies to live comedy from professional comedians.

I loved what Dennis Perkins said about this in his review on the AV Club:

Since, as noted, David’s monologue is being debated at the time of this writing with all the subtle, nuanced analysis Twitter is famous for, here goes. Nothing is off limits in comedy, or for comedy. Nothing. Comedy is the processing of human experience in unique and original ways intended to point up the absurdities inherent in that experience. Some experience—perhaps most—is shit. The best comedians turn shit into laughs. Some high, some low, but laughs, and laughs aren’t to be disregarded.

Larry David didn’t turn the shit into laughs.  I didn’t think it was very funny.  Thought it was a pretty big swing and a miss, and the awkwardness from the crowd made it even worse.   But the outrage at Larry David (a Jewish guy) for just simply “going there,” for “being so offensive,” for even attempting to push the envelope and make people uncomfortable…

I mean this is a comedian, doing stand up comedy, on a comedy sketch show.  If we’re boycotting SNL for this then comedy is officially dead.
