Can The Giants Just Win A Game?

With all the hype about an elite defense, revamped offense & a year of experience under head coach Ben McAdoo the Giants season inexplicably may have already come to an end. History has proven it virtually impossible for 0-3 squads to sneak into the playoffs – but even if that weren’t the case, there’s still a pressing question. When are the G-Men gonna win a damn game?

After 11 quarters of incompetent offense, Big Blue broke out in the 4th quarter last week only to get their hearts ripped out by a 61-yard FG as time expired. It’s not a reliable plan for long term success, but a lot of hurry-up & essentially abandoning the run finally got the Giants across the 20-point plateau for the first time in 9 contests. Beckham, Marshall & Shepard met expectations as a trio for once. Against a TB defense without three starters & others playing hurt, there’s no reason for the points to stop. A healthier Bucs D was just torched by Case Keenum for 369 yards & 3 passing scores.

Hopes of a rushing attack are all but dashed. The G-Men assumedly brought in FB Shane Smith, OL DJ Fluker & TE Rhett Ellison to help a weak offensive line in both run blocking & pass protection. Smith has since been cut & none of the three have seen any semblance of regular snaps so far. So much for changing the scheme. Back to the same 11 personnel over & over. Way to adapt, Ben.

Regardless of the offensive ineptitude, Big Blue’s defense hasn’t met the bar they set last year. They’re not playing poorly overall, but a unit that was one of just two with more interceptions than touchdowns against in 2016 is still waiting for their first 2017 pick. It took a while before the takeaways started in bunches a year ago & Jameis Winston just dropped 3 in the hands of the Vikings secondary – so today could be a return to defensive dominance. They’ll need to improve drastically against the rush though too. Coming off a top-3 run-stuffing season, they’re now the worst in the league. Jacquizz Rodgers shouldn’t be a daunting task, but no one could’ve guessed Philly was gonna romp for almost 200 at 5 yards a chunk.

The Giants need something positive. An 0-4 start & 13 weeks left with nothing to play for can turn this season into a circus real quick. It’ll be 3 months of calling for McAdoo’s exile & Eli’s being put to pasture while managing antics among personalities like ODB & Marshall. So yeah, playoffs may be out of the question either way – but for the love of God please just win a fucking game today so I can avoid the side show for as long as possible.
