WOJ BOMB: Melo Has Reportedly Expanded The List Of Teams He Would Accept A Trade To And It Includes The Cavs
ESPN- Carmelo Anthony, a 10-time NBA All-Star, has delivered the New York Knicks an expanded list of teams — including the Cleveland Cavaliers — with which he’d be willing to waive his no-trade clause, league sources told ESPN. After the Knicks insisted that they were unable to make a deal with the Houston Rockets, his primary trade destination, Anthony and his representatives honored New York’s request and furnished at least two more teams within the past 10 days, league sources told ESPN. One of the known teams on the list, Cleveland, was part of Anthony’s original group of preferred destinations prior to Chris Paul’s trade to the Houston Rockets in late June. The Rockets remain Anthony’s most desired location, but he’s worked to accommodate New York to try and find a trade before the start of the season, league sources said.
Stop, drop, kaboom baby rub on your nipples. We have a Woj Bomb dropping on a Friday night!
Okay I’ll admit that maybe I am a little too hyped about this news right now, we don’t get too much excitement out here in Knicksland. Our biggest highlight of the last year was putting a 71-year-old Team President out of his misery. But Melo potentially relenting on his Houston or bust stance is huge for a bunch of reasons. The most obvious one is that by adding Cleveland to his list, there is a chance Melo fulfills his destiny of being LeBron’s sidekick for a championship run. As a Knicks fan, I don’t give a shit about that. But I do give a shit about that shiny Nets pick the Cavs acquired in the Kyrie-Isaiah trade. Would I give up that pick for Melo? Hellllll no. Would the Cavs do it? I wouldn’t think so, especially since LeBron won’t commit to staying in Cleveland past this season. But if they do, load me up with every shitty contract the Cavs want to get out of and ship them to 33rd and 7th if it means the Knicks can get that pick. If there are any years remaining on an old Mo Williams contract or if LeBron wants a place for James Jones to collect a check, send them to The House That Dolan Wrecked. I’d even bring back Shump and convince myself THIS is the year he puts it all together. The Knicks aren’t going to be competitive for years. But with their own picks and this Net pick, we can build something, even if the Nets aren’t the worst team in the league this season.
The most important thing is that it gives the Knicks more options. Maybe the Cavs can bring in different third teams than the Rockets were able to. Maybe one of these other teams Woj speaks of is the perfect fit for the Knicks. Maybe everyone has been watching Hoodie Melo tear up the pickup circuit and we are about to have a bidding war of biblical proportions. Okay that’s probably not gonna happen. But still, it’s time to get excited Knicks fans. Or as close to excited as fans that have been shit on for almost two straight decades can get. We had to sit through a press conference of nothingness today where reporters had to ask questions about Melo and the front office had to act like he was going to be there, even though everyone on the planet knows that’s probably not true. But this news means the entire charade may finally be over. So just sit back, wait for any more Woj Bombs, and of course #StayMe7o.
Oh yeah and don’t get your hopes too high. We remember the last time a Melo trade was close to happening.
UPDATE:
Not really much to love about that update. The Knicks obviously aren’t going to get Russell Westbrook or Paul George back in a trade and the mere thought of Sam Presti getting to negotiate a trade with the Knicks front office makes me want to throw up. The Thunder have to give their next pick that isn’t 1-14 to the T’Wolves, so getting a pick from them is tricky. Obviously there is a scenario where Paul George leaves after the season, Russ is unhappy, and the Thunder stink so a future pick is a high lottery pick. But again, Sam Presti doesn’t strike me as a guy that is going to get outmaneuvered by a front office with this guy at the top of the org chart.
