Kevin O'Leary Of Shark Tank Wanted To Buy The Coyotes And Move Them To Quebec City
(Starts at 2:50)
Oh MAN! Kevin O’Leary was going to buy the Coyotes and bring back the Nordiques until the other NHL owners shut it down. An alternate reality where we had both the Nordiques in the league and Mr Wonderful as an owner. That’s a better world because let me tell you something loud and clear…Mr Wonderful is BY FAR the best Shark on Shark Tank. The NHL doesn’t have a “star” owner. A mouthpiece that carriers weight and pushes the league forward with real vision. The NFL has Kraft(and before he went insane, Jerry Jones), the NBA has Mark Cuban and Balmer, the NHL has no name recognition with it’s owners. The NHL NEEDS Mr. Wonderful. Who wouldn’t want to see him negotiate with free agents too? “Oh John Tavares, you wan to re-sign with a the broke ass Islanders who don’t even have a rink? You’re dead to me”. Shark Tank is on basically every night on CNBC and I still feel like I need more Kevin O’Leary in my life.
Also, it’s pretty clear that he’d be a good owner. You know why? Because he thinks a market where people care about hockey and buy tickets is important. As he would say…IT’S ABOUT MUH-NEE. Ticket sales…actually important, but don’t tell that to Gary Bettman and the other NHL owners. The Coyotes have been in Arizona for 20 years now. They need a new rink…again, they have a new owner…again, and they look poised to miss the playoffs…again. Maybe it’s time to go home again. It worked for the Thrashers/Jets.
Now that the Vegas team is official, the ugly secret that the NHL has some franchise turmoil is starting to rear it’s head again. The Hurricanes are for sale, the Coyotes need a new arena, and now the Flames are reportedly looking to move. That’s a minimum of three teams with major question marks surrounding their franchise. Not to mention the Florida Panthers who were reportedly given direction to cut salary this summer and are perpetually bleeding money in South Florida. All roads lead back to Mr. Wonderful. Might be a good time to pick up the phone so he can give you a blood sucking deal for one of these loser franchises in a bad market.
