Brian Boyle Is Going To Beat The Shit Out Of Cancer
Tough news yesterday as it was announced that Brian Boyle was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia. It’s a type of cancer that starts in bone marrow. Thankfully it sounds like they were able to catch the disease in its early stages and is treatable with medication. I know it’s hard to find any sort of good news when it comes to somebody being diagnosed with a form of cancer, but it sounds like this could have been much worse so that’s good. And like a true Hockey Guy, it sounds like there’s still a chance he’ll be able to play in the Devils season opener in a couple of weeks.
Brian Boyle is one of those guys who any hockey fan would tell you they’d love to have on their team. The kind of guy who is going to give you 60+ minutes of his best effort every single night he gets to play the game. He’ll do whatever it takes from him to help his team get a win. And that’s the only kind of attitude you’d expect to see out of the guy with this upcoming fight against cancer.
Something to keep in mind. In situations like this, whatever jersey a guy is wearing means absolutely nothing. When it comes to humans vs cancer, I think we can agree that we’re all on the same team. I’m sure the support Brian Boyle will be receiving not only from Devils fans but from hockey fans all across the world is going to be huge. Couple that support with the attitude that Boyle already has and I’m actually starting to feel bad for the cancer. It doesn’t stand a chance. It might want to think about getting an enforcer because Brian Boyle is going to beat the ever living shit out of it.
But for real. Nothing but the best for Brian Boyle. And while we’re at it, nothing but the best for Eddie Olczyk as well. Nothing but the best for anybody and everybody who is currently battling this disease. Obviously we like to stay light around here so I don’t want to get too serious. But if there’s one thing that we all have in common–Devils fans, Flyers fans, hockey fans, basketball fans, whatever or whoever you align yourself with–is that this disease has touched us all in one way or another. Sucks that it takes something like this to usually put everything in perspective but that’s the way she goes sometimes.
Fuck Cancer, Go Boyler.
