NFL Suspends Former Giants Kicker Josh Brown For 6 More Games Coincidentally Right Before A Judge Rules On The Ezekiel Elliott Case

ESPN- Former New York Giants kicker Josh Brown has been suspended another six games for domestic violence accusations, the NFL confirmed in a text message to ESPN on Friday morning. Brown served a one-game suspension at the start of the 2016 season, and he accepted the additional ban following further investigation by the NFL. “We reopened the investigation based on new info,” the league texted to ESPN on Friday. “Concluded there was a violation of our personal conduct policy and imposed 6 game suspension which he accepted without appeal.”

I have to admit that I thought this Josh Brown thing was done with and did a double take when I saw it on my timeline today. Yeah the suspension was light, the Giants dragged their feet at a truly embarrassing slow pace before cutting him, and it just ended during a bye week. But still, for all intents and purposes, Josh Brown’s career of being able to kick footballs for millions of dollars was over once the stories of how he was an absolute monster behind the scenes came out. Not the cleanest of endings to the story, but an ending that needed to happen.

However, this story dropping today had me scratching my head. Why the fuck would the NFL go out and suspend a player that no team will touch with a 1,000 mile pole for additional games right as the season started? That would be like Roger Goodell suspending me from the NFL. It doesn’t mean shit. You weren’t seeing my fat ass or Josh Brown’s scumbag ass in pads on an NFL gridiron anytime soon. I thought maybe the NFL was trying to sneak this one by since our brains are now in football mode and all everyone wants to talk about is how the Chiefs beat the Pats last night. But look at the text they sent. “We reopened the investigation based on new info”. What a crock of shit. We all saw the reports that came out last year about what Brown had done. Not even just that, but remember the actual report about the confrontation that Brown had with his wife during the Pro Bowl where NFL security had to get involved?

Josh Brown’s ex-wife alleged that the NFL and some players on the Giants were aware of the kicker’s abusive behavior, and the NFL was once concerned enough to take steps to try to protect her and her children. Those allegations were among the many contained in the 165 pages of documents SNY obtained from the Kings County (Wash.) Sherriff’s office on Wednesday. Among the emails and diaries where Josh allegedly admitted to physically abusing his now ex-wife Molly, was a police “follow up” report with more accusations and allegations of abuse.

A significant one allegedly occurred under the NFL’s watch at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii last January, according to the police report. Molly told police that while she and Josh were in the process of getting a divorce, Josh offered to take her and her children to Hawaii and pay their expenses. She agreed, but then called that “a big mistake.” Molly alleged that she was subject to “cutting comments” from Josh on that trip, and that he took her phone and searched through her texts, according to the police report. She also alleged that one night he got drunk and pounded on her door so loudly that NFL security and hotel security were called and had to escort Josh away. She also alleged that the NFL eventually put her and her kids up in a different hotel “where Josh would not know where they were,” the police report said.

That last part is a damning allegation considering the reason the NFL gave for using only Josh Brown’s arrest in May, 2015 when they decided to give him a seemingly light one-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct and domestic violence policy. The league said in a statement in August that while it was aware that Molly had alleged multiple incidents of domestic violence, it “had insufficient information to corroborate prior allegations.”

They needed more info than all THAT? A year later? The NFL, that is notorious for suspending players on evidence softer than baby shit needed more than all that to give Josh Brown a stiffer sentence than one game? What a bunch of horseshit.

Something stunk. And then I continued to read the ESPN article, and wouldn’t you know it.

The decision comes on the same day that Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is waiting to hear from a U.S. District Court judge in Texas whether he will be granted a temporary restraining order that would allow him to continue to play this season. Elliott was suspended for six games on Aug. 11 for a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy, but he will be able to play Sunday against the Giants.

“Timing has nothing to do with Zeke and made no sense to hold this until Zeke was complete,” the league texted to ESPN.

Oh wow, the timing of you suspending a kicker a YEAR later for domestic abuse has nothing to do with the high profile domestic abuse case of another one of your players?

What a bunch of fucking clown shoes. Even when the NFL appears to be doing something right, it is wayyyy too late and likely with another motive involved. Fuck the NFL. Fuck Goodell. And fuck Josh Brown while we are at it. If the product wasn’t so addicting, we could all bail. But instead we will make our plans on Sunday around our team’s games because the sport has us by the balls and stories like this continue to make our skin crawl.
