I Wish I Had "Deadmau5 Paid $15,000 For A Bottle Of McDonald's Szechuan Sauce" Money
Food Beast - After McDonald’s gave away a few bottles of their famous and coveted Szechuan sauce on Twitter, one user decided to sell theirs off for a good cause, and it paid off big time.
WWG writer Robert Workman, who goes by @TheDCD on Twitter, put his bottle of Szechuan sauce that he won up for auction on Ebay, and it turned into a total bid war. The price eventually ratcheted up to a staggering $15,000, which is a lot to pay for a half gallon jug of a condiment that people used to get for free with their McNuggets.
In a strange turn of events, the top bidder of the initial auction never paid for the item, forcing Workman to file an unpaid claim and contact the second place winner. That runner-up turned out to be acclaimed record producer and DJ Deadmau5, who also bid around the $15,000 mark for the Szechuan sauce. The artist then officially agreed to pay for the sauce and obtain it after he finished getting married over the weekend.
That’s the “fuck you” money that you dream about. You know how sometimes you’ll be up late, unable to fall asleep because the strong anxiety of simply being alive is sweeping over your entire existence, making your brain spin 1000 MPH, and you’re questioning every decision you ever made and ever will make, wondering how your high school girlfriend is doing and if you shoulda just gone to grad school instead of doing the meaningless job you currently have, so you start buying stuff you don’t need with money you don’t have? Well imagine that scenario, but you’re a world-famous DJ about to get married and you have so much money that you decide to willy nilly toss 15k to some stranger for a bottle of McDonald’s Szechuan Sauce.
And the thing about this sauce is it’s only worth that much money because that Adult Swim show “Rick And Morty” has popularized it with nerds. McDonald’s made the sauce briefly in 1998, “Rick And Morty” did an episode about it recently, and it’s been a phenomenon ever since. So this guy Robert Workman pretty much struck gold, winning a drawing for a free bottle after McDonalds gave away 3 in a Twitter contest.
Robert Workman then did the obvious thing- threw that stuff up on eBay immediately, sold it to Deadmau5 for a cool 15k, and laughed all the way to the bank.
$15,000. That’s like 3 whole Bitcoins. What a life.
