End Of An Era: Bob Burnquist Retires From The X Games

26 X Games. 22 years. 14 Gold Medals. 8 Silvers. 8 Bronze. And now the Bob Burnquist era has officially come to an end.

Think about it this way. Kids that were born the year that Bob Burnquist first started competing in the X Games graduated from college this year. One of the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater characters. Dude’s career has been through Playstation 1, PS2, PS3 and PS4. Bob Burnquist was tearing up halfpipes back when you’d run home from school every day to see if there was a new CCS Catalog waiting for you in your mailbox. Brett Favre and Emmitt Smith were the best players in the NFL when he was first getting started with the X Games and the man was still going up until this weekend.

I guess it’s a good thing he’s finally getting out now that the X Games has eSports competitions and no Sal Masekela anymore. But it’s still that final piece of your childhood coming to an end. Bob Burnquist was pretty much the last man standing. It was Bob Burnquist and Jaromir Jagr. Now Bob is retired and Jagr is still a free agent so who knows what’ll happen with that. All I do know is Bob Burnquist is a legend and Oakley sales better be going through the roof right now to commemorate his career.

Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.
