Austrian Dude Who Made $15,000 In The Tennis Minor Leagues In 2017 Made Over $115,000 At Wimbledon For Reaching The 3rd Round
Currently No. 217 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, Ofner is projected to move just outside the Top 150 after Wimbledon. His bank account will increase significantly as well. Ofner has amassed just over $46,000 in his career, but is guaranteed to take home more than $116,000 for reaching the third round at Wimbledon. He will also make a major jump in the Emirates ATP Race to Milan, which determines seven of the eight players who will qualify for the Next Gen ATP Finals, to be held from 7-11 Nov. in Milan. The eighth player will be determined by wild card.
Currently coached by Wolfgang Thiem, the father of Dominic Thiem, the Austrian has done things his way when it comes to tennis. He eschewed life at an academy to complete his studies at a local private school called Liese Prokop. Ofner began his pro career in earnest two years ago, winning four Futures titles and finishing runner-up at four other Futures events in 2016. He progressed to the ATP Challenger Tour this season and reached his first Challenger final this May in Mestre, Italy.
Sebastian Ofner has made $15,000 this year playing in the tennis minor leagues. He played in challenger and future tournaments, never dreaming of playing in a grand slam tournament. I mean the dude started playing tennis TWO YEARS AGO. Well, after winning a qualifying tournament to play in this week’s Wimbledon he’s found his way into the third round after beating the top-seeded American Jack Sock in five sets yesterday. What does a third round appearance mean in Wimbledon? More than a $116,000 in prize money OH YEAH. This guy has never played in an ATP match in his life and now is living the absolute dream knocking off top-20 seeds at WIMBLEDON. Literally a rags to riches story like you’d see in a movie. I mean they’re probably going to make a movie out of this story if we’re being honest.
Sebastian also has A+++++ hair gel game
Ofner lost as a +1200 underdog to the 10th overall seed Zverev Saturday so the dream run ends there, but my man Sebastian is $116,000+ richer after making just over $40k in his career.
