In Memory of Anthony Young 1966-2017

This post is in tribute to Anthony Young who lost a battle with brain cancer on Tuesday at the Age of 51.

Anthony Young was perhaps the most star crossed pitcher in the history of baseball. Playing on the New York Mets in the dark days of the early 90’s he lost 27 straight decisions between 1992 and 1993, setting an embarrassing Major League Record. AY was nonetheless a popular pitcher with the fans and players, as much of the losing was due to the team around him. While enduring his streak, Anthony Young had a lower ERA than Juan Guzman of the Toronto Blue Jays, who was one of baseball’s top winners at the time. When his streak ended with a walk off win on July 28, 1993 you could see just how popular he was with the fans and his Mets teammates.

Here is that video and how I will remember AY, may you finally win some game in heaven.
