More NBA Awards Are Starting To Roll Out!
With the NBA’s Award show airing tonight, we’ve already started to see some of the results come in. As I’m writing this, we have our lists for All Rookie and All NBA Defensive teams. Let’s take a look!
Now I’m not going to do what you all think I’m going to do AND FREAK THE FUCK OUT. In fact, quite the opposite. I have almost no problems with how these two teams are sorted. The one case you could make is that Jamal Murray should be in over Hield and clearly I think he agrees with me
Brodgon, Saric, and Embiid were obviously no brainers. If you’re a Philly fan this probably makes you just as excited as it does sad. I really want Embiid to stay healthy even as a Celtics fan because I think he’s that good. The surprise for me is Willy Hernangomez, not because he didn’t deserve it, but I had no idea he had this good of season. A season of 8/7 with 52% shooting and a PER of 19 is pretty freaking good for a guy who went 35th. No chance once Phil wakes up from his nap that he doesn’t try to trade him. Can’t have two young promising bigs on one roster everybody knows that.
For the second team, this feels right too, even Jaylen. The real good story here is obviously Yogi Ferrell. Here’s a guy that goes undrafted, then gets cut by the Nets, signs a 10 day with the Mavs and now is 100% part of their future despite them just drafting a PG. And sure, maybe I’m high on him because I saw him drop 20 on 8-11 against the Celtics, but to go from where he was to 2nd All Rookie is pretty incredible.
I’m glad the NBA got this one right for the most part as well. I was nervous after DeAndre Jordan stole the All Star spot, that he would find a way onto this as well, but he didn’t make either team. Now I think while Danny Green is a very good defender, he did benefit a little bit from Avery missing 27 games. That’s why I’m not upset about this Celtics snub either. You miss that many games, it’s going to be hard to crack one of these two teams. I think it’s a good sign that Marcus was second among PGs that just missed the cut, coming in ahead of guys like Westbrook and Conley.
But the biggest surprise and really the best part of these votes is what happened with the second from last name. Who is this Isaiah Thomas you speak of? Is that the guy that all year everyone told me was the worst defender in the NBA? Do they give All NBA Defense votes to the worst defenders in the NBA? Where’s Lowry? Where’s Kyrie? He only finished two votes behind Curry?
SCOREBOARD BITCHES!!!!
Now is this outrageous? Absolutely, but sorry, these are the facts. Ts + Ps to everyone who tries to talk to me about Isaiah’s defense next year. Great day to be me, great day to be on #TeamIsaiah, bad day for the h8ers.
I haven’t seen any other announcements come through since I started this blog, but I’ll have a full recap after the award show tonight.
Think anyone got snubbed? Hit the comments and let me hear your thoughts.
