Matt Rambo, Pride Of Philly, Wins The Tewaaraton. Time For The Parade

Before we get started here because I know there’s going to be some people out there with a “what the hell is a Tewaaraton” comments. The Tewaaraton is lacrosse’s version of the Heisman. Very simple concept. Now that that’s out of the way…

Maryland’s all-time leading point scorer. The all-time NCAA tournament leading point scorer. 4 straight Final Four appearances. 3 straight National Championship game appearances. Capping off his senior season by leading the Terps to their first title since 1975. I know that the Tewaaraton Award is supposed to be an annual award. I know it’s supposed to be given to the most outstanding player of that year, and that you’re not really supposed to take a player’s 4-year career into consideration. But if there’s one player in the history of college lacrosse that deserves “lifetime achievement” status for Tewaaraton voting, it’s Matt Rambo.

Between the 5 finalist, you could make the strongest cases for Rambo, Connor Fields and Trevor Baptiste. Baptiste will go down as the best FOGO college lacrosse has ever seen. But right off the bat you take him off the board after he didn’t have the strongest performance of his life against the Terps in the semifinals. Now do I think that in any other year Connor Fields deserved to win the award? One hundo p. Kid led the nation with 115 points. Justin Guterding was 2nd in the nation and he was still 19 points behind. And Fields doesn’t have the same amount of firepower to work with that Rambo has. He didn’t have Heacock, he didn’t have Connor Kelly, he didn’t have Rotanz, he didn’t have Maltz. The rest of the guys on Albany’s offense are very good players but let’s not kid ourselves here. You take Connor Fields away from Albany and they’re a much different team than if you were to take Rambo away from Maryland.

So if Maryland doesn’t win the National Championship this year, you give the Tewaaraton to Fields. But you can’t not give it to Rambo after the career he just had. Coming into Maryland freshman year as the #1 recruit in the country. Played on Memorial Day three years in a row. Probably going to smash Mia Khalifa at some point or another this summer.

Rambo had 86 points on the season. Banging a porn star more than makes up for the 30 points Fields had on him. So shoutout to Rambo for doing the damn thing. First Terp to win the men’s Tewaaraton (aside from Frank Urso receiving the Legends award last year). First player out of Philly to win the Tewaaraton. And without a doubt, a 1st Team All Fat Face selection. The Big Ben of lacrosse.
