A New Poll Says Conservatives Are Overly Sick Of ESPN's Liberal-Leaning Political Content

FTW – Amid the ongoing wake of the layoffs ESPN handed down to about 100 high-profile employees last week, many claimed ESPN’s business was suffering from becoming too left-leaning and political.

But according to a newly-published YouGov poll — a leading polling firm in the UK — there is evidence that the network’s view among more Conservative-leaning audiences has declined in recently, from “32 in 2013 to just above 16 in 2017.”

On the poll’s results, YouGov said:

Whether ESPN’s programming has become more liberal in recent years or not is beside the point; the figures suggest that enough Republicans believe it has, and this belief has ostensibly contributed to their diminished view of the sports network.

From three years reading my blogs you know my stance: It makes me sick every time a sports property dilutes itself with with non-sports content. And now those libs over at LibSPN are seeing first hand what happens when you inject political views into a place where people just want to see sports talk with an occasional dab of hijinks. They’re not looking for political views or the latest Hollywood lefty gossip, no sir. They’re looking for sports talk, first and foremost, and that’s something ESPN forgot. And now ESPN’s commie chickens have come home to their pinko roost and they have to pay the price in the form of some hard-working folks being laid off.

And that’s the thing a lot of the liberal media missed when ESPN’s layoffs first happened: This was entirely due to shoving their lefty content down everyone’s throat for years, no other business factors. Conservative people have been fed up and they’re willing to pass up the only cable sports network with games from almost all of the major leagues to prove it. I mean sure you could blame cord cutting or increases in carrier fees getting passed down to customers or lower quality games going to ESPN’s Monday Night Football package while the networks cherry pick better matchups or oversaturation of content or lack of actual sports coverage or how readily available games are on other apps or highlights on-demand on social media…but that’d be foolish. It’s because ESPN fired Curt Schilling or acknowledged Caitlyn Jenner and Michael Sam’s existences or because they covered Colin Kaepernick’s arguments. That’s the sole reason why their business model is hemorrhaging money and they need to adapt. Thank the brave souls in this poll for courageously getting fed up and hitting them in their wallets, that’s the only way the Extremely Socialist Programming Network will truly get the message.

I’m just glad to work at a place that doesn’t forget that SPORTS comes first. Keep politics and culture out of the mix. More stats less chats, that’s our motto at Barstoolsports dot com
