The Giants Select TE Evan Engram From Ole Miss With The 23rd Pick
Well there it is. I honestly had no preference or feel for what the Giants would do with this pick. The one thing I want them to do is replace Ereck Flowers with a starting left tackle, but that didn’t look to be an option based on the players available in the draft. In all honesty, I am looking more forward to the potential cuts of a left tackle in the preseason than I am for the draft. So I was cool with an offensive lineman, a tight end, or a linebacker. But I did NOT see Evan Engram getting picked. I was rooting for OJ Howard to fall to us just so the option was there, but I figured once the Bucs punched his ticket to Jameis Winston Tampa Florida, the Giants would pick Njoku if they went tight end. According to the mock drafts this was a reach. But so was the Eli Apple pick last year and I guess it’s worked out so far. Right?
Now give me a minute to talk you into this pick. For one, it ensures Larry Donnell will definitely NOT be back. No more bad drops and idiotic flips. Two, it appears we have a tight end that can actually move forward after he catches a pass, unlike Will Tye whose YAC may be even lower than than that undead zombie motherfucker Jason Witten. Eli made Kevin Boss and Jake Ballard viable tight ends on Super Bowl teams, so a player that is 6’3″ and described as a matchup nightmare could be a monster in this offense with those 3 WRs in the Benny Mac Attack. Give Eli some weapons as his career winds down and see if that (and some improved line play please God please) fixes whatever went wrong last season.
As for comps, this one gave me the heebie jeebies for a hot minute.
But I think I can live with the “Jordan Reed without injuries” comp
And don’t worry about the blocking. Rhett Ellison is basically a 99 blocking in Madden in my mind until proven otherwise. He is also my leader in the clubhouse to replace Ereck Flowers. Not sure how all that is gonna play out.
I’m a huge fan of Engram’s Twitter name too.
Eazy E’s from Ole Miss have a track record of success in New York.
And this video, well yeah we are all thinking the same thing.
However, I have to admit that Engram’s Pardon My Take breakdown raised some red flags. Namely that his name was spelled wrong, the picture was some other dude, and John Kruk’s one nut came up in conversation. But I’m still in on Eazy E.
Sadly this also means my dream of Jake Butt to the Giants is likely dead. God dammit. No GMen jersey with the name Butt on it in my future unless I just want to be a weirdo and buy a customized one from the NFL store or the Giants take him late if that ACL injury causes him to plummet.
Also what a shame that an Eagles fan had to ruin this moment for young children watching the draft at home. Sad even.
Now if you will excuse me, I have to go lose myself in Evan Engram highlights and convince myself he is a first ballot Hall of Famer.
UPDATE: Just finished watching this. I’m all-in on Engram. Absolute beast in the SEC. Can’t wait until Eli inducts Engram into Canton while wearing his own gold jacket.
UPDATED UPDATE: I am now dead.
