Facebook Says They Probably Need To Do A Better Job Of Keeping Murderers From Live Streaming

Uproxx – Facebook Global Operations VP Justin Osofsky penned a community post to admit, “We know we need to do better.” He explains the steps that led to the homicide video removal, which was slowed by a lack of user reporting, although there was still a gap between reporting and removal: “[W]e are reviewing our reporting flows to be sure people can report videos and other material that violates our standards as easily and quickly as possible. In this case, we did not receive a report about the first video, and we only received a report about the second video — containing the shooting — more than an hour and 45 minutes after it was posted. We received reports about the third video, containing the man’s live confession, only after it had ended. We disabled the suspect’s account within 23 minutes of receiving the first report about the murder video, and two hours after receiving a report of any kind. But we know we need to do better.” CNN Money followed up with an anonymous source (with knowledge of Facebook), who says that thousands of reviewers work for the platform, but there’s a typical standard of reviewing flagged content “within 24 hours” as prioritized within an algorithm. With Stephens, the algorithm didn’t work to immediately shut down his account, which may be due to the company’s use of some outside contractors for reviewing.

Yeah…probably shouldn’t allow that. At least Facebook states they’re indeed against giving murderous psychopaths a medium to broadcast whenever they want. A bold play indeed, Zuck. But I fundamentally don’t understand how this “Algorithm” straight out of Skynet can’t identify murderous content but I get flagged for posting a video where I attempt to beat the piss out of nerds in a pillow fight while dressed as a Viking. “Violent Content”, my Eric The Red headed balls, Zuckerberg. But seriously, how the hell does this system choose what is posted and what is not? I just opened Facebook and the first thing that popped up was an automated video that a “Friend” I haven’t even thought of in 6 years has been friends with someone I’ve never met for 8 years. Sweet. Oh, and 4 other sponsored ads combined with a Barstool video of some kid Dartying his dick off by flying off a shed and shattering is femur. Thanks? Still, I’d rather see that than an overly political Aunt or insecure people who only post how perfect their lives are even though they’re dying inside. So keep up the mediocre work, Facebook.

As for this madman Stephens, the Philly Police said there was no indication of him actually being in the area. Which is nice, I suppose. I alluded to it yesterday, but it’s kind of bizarro world there isn’t THAT much of a nationwide manhunt out for this lunatic. I mean, sure, people have their head on a swivel, but I feel like there’s been more urgency in the past to catch someone who randomly kills people on the streets then posts about it online. Have the NSA illegally pinpoint this guy and take him the fuck out before he kills again.
