Canadian Deer Needs To Be Suspended After This Vicious Head Shot
Listen. I get it. Playoff hockey is back in Canada after taking a year hiatus last year and this deer is just trying to make a play out there. He’s just trying to set the tone for the rest of the series and announce that they’ll be playing a physical game. I know he didn’t mean to cross the line but the fact of the matter here is that regardless of what era you played the game in, this is a dirty hit. Even in the 70s this gets called. You can see he clearly leaves his feet and targets the head.
This is the exact kind of hit the league is trying to get rid of. I understand that dishing out suspensions gets a little more complicated once we’re in the playoffs but I just don’t see any way how this doesn’t result in a 1 or 2 game suspension. Charging, leaves his feet, targets the head. The puck was nowhere near the play either. Like I said, I get wanting to go out there and making a play to get the boys charged up. But there are better ways to go about it.
P.S. – Clearly this hit stems back to a regular season game between these two teams earlier in the year when the 25-year-old man’s father shot the deer’s brother. I’m a big fan of self-policing the game so I have no issue with this type of retaliatory action being taken. But it still crosses the line and he’ll be getting a call from the DoPS at some point today.
