Source – The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) pulled Pearl Gonzalez from UFC 210 on Friday morning because she has breast implants. The commission does not allow fighters to compete with implants, per their rules.
Gonzalez was scheduled to make her UFC debut on Saturday to take on the undefeated Cynthia Calvillo on the UFC 210 main card Saturday night at KeyBank Arena.
Gonzalez and Calvillo both cut weight and successfully made the strawweight limit Friday morning. The NYSAC broke the news to her after weigh-ins were over.
Let me get this straight: UFC, the NYSAC, the trainers, promoters, agents and sponsors all let it get past the weigh-in before someone pulled my girl Pearl here aside and said “Say, you know this whole fight thing you’ve been training for all this time? Yeah, well um … funny thing about that …” I mean, was there no one who knew about the rule? Or a single person who looked at those amazingly symmetrical and gravity-defying concealed weapons of hers and thought those are the cans her mama gave her? Shouldn’t this have come up a little sooner? I don’t know, like before she signed the contract?
But let’s put a pin in that for now and talk about the real issue. The fact that women with implants are being discriminated against in New York state. In 2017. Call me a SJW call me what you will. But I believe women who self-identify with better tits than nature gave them and get medical treatment to look the way they feel inside should have the same opportunities as everybody else.
Sure, the NYSAC will cite safety reasons. That’s what they all say. When the real problem is their own fear. They’re not comfortable with the sight of two women with perfect, surgically enhanced racks fighting for the entertainment of others. Even though implants have been shown to hold up in the wrestling ring, Foxy Boxing contests, Jell-o-, mud- and hot oil-wrestling events the world over. This is about Boob Equality. And I’m going to stand with the Pearl Gonzalezes of the world because I believe they should be afforded the same opportunities as small-breasted ultimate fighters. The struggle is real.
