I Really, Really Like The Eagles Trading Almost Nothing For Ravens DT Timmy Jernigan
USAToday – The Baltimore Ravens traded defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan to the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday in a swap of draft picks. The Ravens received the No. 74 overall pick (third round) in exchange for Jernigan and the No. 99 selection. Jernigan, 24, started 15 games for the Ravens last season and had five sacks. A second-round pick out of Florida State in 2014, he is entering the final year of his rookie contract.
OK, moving down 25 spots in the 3rd round isn’t exactly nothing. It’s something. Especially since Jernigan is on the last year of his rookie deal with only the slight chance of locking him down long term. There’s going to be a lot of short-term contractual mouths to feed with the little peanuts the Eagles have left (if Alshon Jeffrey has anything close to a decent year he’s going to be HANGRY). But this 24-year-old is the perfect replacement for Benny Logan this season in the interior of the Eagles DL. This kid started 15 games last season and had 31 total tackles with five sacks. He’s taken down the QB 15 times in his short time in the NFL. Plus any DL that’s played for the Ravens and FSU is usually one mean motherfucker. Between Timmy, Fletcher, and Big Beautiful Beau on the inside, that’s not a bad 1-2-3 DT rotation heading into this season.
So well done, Howie. See? I can play nice. Even though this move REEKS of Joe Douglas (who was a product of Ravens GM genius Ozzie Newsome). Now concentrate on drafting your nuts off, por favor. After that, keep on devouring that QB, Timmy. Love it.
