Of Course The Knicks Tweeted Out An Amtrak Ad With A Picture Of Derrick Rose Next To A Train
I don’t even know what to make of the Knicks anymore. Is tweeting out a picture with Derrick Rose in front of a train, plane, or automobile one of the most tone deaf moves of all-time? Or are the Knicks crazy like a fox and engaging in some good old fashion viral marketing? Because if so, bravo to the Knicks marketing team. However everything I know about this franchise for the last 20 years or so says this was a colossal fuck up.
But the real winner in all this is Amtrak. They have the face of dropping whatever you are doing and getting away on a trip in a tweet that was probably scheduled days ago (not many days though, because you never know how long Derrick’s knees would hold up). If Amtrak was smart they would start promoting New York to Chicago trips for, um, I don’t know. I don’t ride trains long distances since I have a full-time job. But you gotta strike while the iron’s hot.
And the other winner in all of this is Odell Beckham. “Get Off Of The New York Newspaper Back Pages For Free” cards don’t usually fall from the heavens like this. Even though I’m a fan of the Giants and the Knicks, I’ll chalk this up as a win. The Giants merely adopted controversy this week. The Dolan Knicks were born in it, molded by it. This whole saga is peanuts for the Knicks.
But seriously can we slap a tracking bracelet on D.Rose’s ankle? Or at least tie a balloon to the back of his shirt or put some bells on his shoelaces.
UPDATE: As I was writing this, the Knicks deleted the tweet. They can’t even go viral correctly. smh
