Staten Island Yankees Cancel Fan Voting Contest To Rename Team Which Included Options Like "Pizza Rats" And "Bridge Trolls"

NYDN- The Staten Island Yankees are keeping their name, abandoning a fan vote that included Pizza Rats as an option. The Yankees farm team in the Class A New York-Penn League also had listed Bridge Trolls, Island Heroes, Killer Bees and Rock Pigeons as choices. “Over time it became clear that the approval and acceptance of the new name and artwork would take longer than initially anticipated,” the team said in a statement Monday. “With that taken into consideration, we decided to table the rebranding process for the upcoming season.”

George Steinbrenner must be doing somersaults in his grave with this nonsense. The Boss would have released the hounds on whatever employee even dreamt of naming his team after a a year old viral vermin. And General George never would have pulled some pussy excuse like it took too much time or some shit. He would have crushed the larynx of every employee in the building, renamed the team, and started planning his sweet revenge on everyone who wronged him while indulging in a calzone. As much as I dislike hearing many of the obnoxious Yankees fans, it is sad to see a once great American franchise fall to these depths while the Mets are across town with the best arms in baseball and the best new name in the minors.
