It's Going Down In Aruba One Week From Today #NatesGotTheChipsAndThatsAKnownFact
At long last, we are just a week away from my much anticipated trip to Aruba. If you are a new reader, here is the back story:
Back in May I played a tournament at the local casino in Maryland. It wasn’t anything big- $400 buy-in with about $25k for first. Well I grinded my way to the final table, Twitter caught wind of it, and eventually finished 4th for $13k and a $4,200 vacation package to Aruba.
When Davey Poker found out I chopped for more than 4th place money as I should have, he said he was coming with me to Aruba to show the world he’s the better poker player.
Well it turns out the poker tournament is the same weekend as Breeder’s Cup, his favorite weekend of the year, so he’s no longer coming. So instead he challenged me to a heads up battle, which I gladly accepted. Pretty funny how he’ll do anything the day of if he wants to, but somehow 5 months later he’s yet to put his 10k on the table to play me. Scurrrrred? Probably. Or maybe not the content guy we thought he was? Hard to say. Hopefully we eventually play heads up because I’d love an additional 10k in my wallet.
So here we are, a mere 7 days away from Aruba and the $2,400 main event. What does that mean? It costs $2,400 to play the event, and they are guaranteeing a $500,000 prize pool. Most poker tournaments pay around 20% for first, meaning we could be looking at a cool 100 grand for first. Which is something I’d much like.
To warm up for it, I’ve been playing a lot on PokerStars NJ. Just grinding those internet streets, often times on Twitch. It’s a lot of fun, but I’ve also played cash games while blacked out drunk and lost a shit ton. Like, way too much. It sucks.
But anyway, buckle up buckaroos. Natey is going to Aruba and by god I hope I come back rich. Maybe parlay that into a little WSOP main event action? We’ll see. Hopefully I play good and run better and this becomes an awesome story. Or I run Kings into Aces and it all goes to shit, that’s why we play the game.
