Fuck Madison Bumgarner
Man, fuck this guy. I’m sick of hearing about Bumgarner’s stats. I’m sick of hearing about the Giants during and even year. And I’m sick of nobody mention who Bumgarner is facing tonight. People are acting like the Mets are trotting out some slop to the mound tonight. Noah Syndergaard can go toe to toe with any pitcher on the planet earth, and thats a fact, Jack. Thor is the next Bumgarner. Hes got the arm and the balls that it takes to be one of these postseason legends and tonight is when this 24 year old monster shows it.
Last year the Mets were supposed to be afraid of Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke. They dealt with those 2 four times in a 5 game series and came out on top. And I know that Kershaw isnt a postseason beast and Greinke isnt a World Series MVP, but they were supposed to be afraid of Jake Arrieta too. The Church of Jake, they said. You could make the argument that Jake Arrieta was pitching better than anyone has ever pitched before. You could make the argument that nobody is as confident and cocky as Arrieta. When the pressure is on he thrives. And this same Mets team ran right through him as well.
Now I know you’ll all tell me that Daniel Murphy isn’t walking through that door. I know his historic tear was a big part of beating those aces. But maybe the next Daniel Murphy will be walking through that door. Murph’s streak was about as unlikely and unprecedented as anything you will ever see on a baseball diamond. So who knows? Maybe this year, Cespedes isnt ice cold for the playoffs. Maybe TJ Rivera fills that role of unexpected hero. Maybe its Reyes making the most of his second shot at October in New York. Maybe its Jay bruce on one of his hot streaks where hes unstoppable. Theres a lot of candidates on this team to be the David who slays Goliath. And all its gonna take tonight is a couple runs. Maybe even just one. Noah will take care of the rest.
Bumgarner’s ERA was pushing 4 this September. With a postseason berth on the line basically every time he took the mound down the stretch, they lost 2 of his last 6 starts including a clunker against San Diego at the end of the regular season where he gave up 3 bombs in 6 innings. Of course you have to fear and respect this guy in October but he’s human and tonight he faces a bunch of dudes with zero expectations, nothing to lose, and a propensity to hit a lot of home runs. Get ahold of one, put a couple on the board, get to that bullpen, and let one of the best starters in baseball, one of the best setup men in baseball, and a 50 save closer in Noah/Reed/Familia close the door for you. Thats not that outrageous. Stranger things have happened.
