The Video Of Jose Fernandez Finding Out That He's Having A Daughter Is Heartbreaking
This video was originally taken in August, but is just now making the rounds after Jose Fernandez’s passing. As I wrote yesterday, there have been stories that have come out in the wake of Jose’s death that only add more sadness to the story, and then there have been stories that have come out that give us a better idea of who Jose Fernandez the person was, since most of us only knew him as Jose Fernandez the baseball player.
This story does both. He was 24 years old, so naturally a loss of life at that age is going to be incredibly tragic. But I think the part of the story that hits home with everybody is the fact that he and his girlfriend were expecting their first child together, a baby girl. It’s beyond devastating to know that she will never have the pleasure of getting to meet her father. However, one day I hope she gets to see this video, and witness the look of pure joy and elation on her father’s face when he found out that he was having a baby girl. That’s what unconditional love looks like, and she certainly had his.
