Trent Richardson's Friends And Family Spent $1.6 Million Of His Money In a 10 Month Span

Yahoo - Just days after he was released by the Baltimore Ravens in what could be an NFL career-ending transaction comes more sad news with Trent Richardson.

The former No. 3 overall pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2012 told ESPN’s Shelley Smith on “E:60” that his family and friends spent $1.6 million of his money in a period between January 2015 and October in 2015.

“I finally just looked at my bank statement, and I was just like, ‘Where did this come from? Where did that come from?’” Richardson said. “And my guy was sitting there telling me, ‘Man, we was telling you.’ I know he was telling me, but that’s just like telling a kid to stop running in the hall. They’re going to still do it when you turn your back or you leave. “It’s just one of them moments to where I was just blinded by my heart, by loving everybody and thinking that everyone was for me. I know they love me. I know they do care. But at the time, they took advantage of it.”

Richardson signed a fully-guaranteed deal worth $20.5 million over four years with the Browns in July 2012. He told ESPN that he isn’t broke and can support his immediate family but has shaved off some major costs, such as removing his brother, Terrell, as Richardson’s $100,000-a-year personal assistant.

“He’s such a good guy,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. “He’s such a good person, and he wants to please everyone. And I think sometimes when guys have that personality, which is a great personality to have, it makes it very difficult to disappoint anyone with the word ‘No.’”

You know, I am still rooting for Trent Richardson. Sure he can’t really hit a hole, and sure he’s the easiest RB to tackle in the league, but I am definitely still rooting for him. He was a monster at Bama, and he had a decent enough rookie year in Cleveland. He’s just one of those head-scratching cases where it’s like “man, I never expected this guy to suck so much”. And now the news comes out that he’s one of those nice guys who supports every single person who pops out of the clouds because he can’t say no. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to have all sorts of poor as shit friends and you see the filth they live in and still tell them “no” when they ask for some money for food. But that’s what they try to teach you when you get drafted, you just have to cut all your old, washed up friends out of your life. You have to tell the long lost cousins and aunties that you can’t buy them a new car, and just deal with them hating you and resenting you for it. I’ve read a few articles here and there about how hard it is when you grow up poor to just let that part of your life go, seems almost impossible. But if you don’t, you end up like Mike Vick killing dogs or like Trent Richardson getting taken for 1.6 million dollars.

PS: There has to be a place for Trent Richardson in the league. I need him to put on a ton of muscle/weight and become a fullback. He has good hands for a back, just teach him to lay the lumber as a lead blocker. He clearly can’t be a full time RB averaging 3 yards a carry, but he’s still just 26, he can’t be completely done in the league. Or maybe he can. Because he stinks. Who knows.

(Spoiler alert: He cut left.)
