Nike Golf Dropping Equipment Business

Golf ChannelNike Golf announced Wednesday that it plans to “transition out” of golf equipment, instead focusing solely on its footwear and apparel business.

No specified timetable for the transition was announced. The decision means that Nike will soon stop producing clubs, balls and golf bags.

“We’re committed to being the undisputed leader in golf footwear and apparel,” Nike brand president Trevor Edwards said in a statement. “We will achieve this by investing in performance innovation for athletes and delivering sustainable profitable growth for Nike Golf.”

Sad, sad day for our generation of golf fans. We love Nike golf. Nike and golf and Tiger Woods are one and the same for us. It all began with Tiger and those gigantic fucking shirts he used to wear.

Now I know they’re not ending their apparel. They’re actually focusing specifically on it (it’s about time). But it’s ALL Nike golf to us. The equipment. The gear. The Eldrick. Equipment-wise, who can forget when they hit us with the square Sasquatch!?

And when Tiger produced, directed, and starred in the greatest golf ball commercial of all time?

Anyway, now Rory’s carrying the torch, Tiger’s more stuck to his couch than Clancy, and the Nike golf equipment brand is dead. Sad day indeed.
