Twitter Thinks This Youtube Star Marina Joyce Has Been Kidnapped And Is Secretly Reaching Out For Help Through Her Videos

BuzzFeedMarina Joyce is a 19-year-old YouTube star from north London who was well-known online for her fashion vlogs. In the past day, the hashtag #SaveMarinaJoyce has been trending all over the world, as social media users have come to the conclusion that she is facing some kind of danger. The panic appears to have been largely sparked by a video she posted on 22 July, entitled “Date Outfit Ideas”. A number of viewers raised concerns about the video, many of which were expressed in this blog. Among other fears, they said that they could faintly hear her saying “help me” 13 seconds in, that there were bruises on her arms, that she was reading from a script, and that she could be seen looking with fear at someone behind the camera. The author of the blog alleged that she may have been kidnapped in order to make YouTube videos. The next day, #SaveMarinaJoyce began to trend around the world. The hashtag contained numerous assertions about her mental health, her domestic situation, and many more outlandish assertions.

This is either one of the greatest publicity stunt hoaxes of all time, or one of the most ridiculous examples of Twitter hysteria, and in either scenario, I love the goddam internet. The hashtag #SaveMarinaJoyce is trending worldwide and its simply outrageous.

As far as I can tell this chick is a Youtube star. A Jenna Marbles type, I would imagine. Some of her fans said they noticed a change in her behavior, and then one specific video (the one embedded above) led everyone to believe she had been kidnapped and was being forced at gunpoint to create youtube videos.

Incredible, man. Simply incredible. We got people breaking down fashion youtube videos like the Zapruder film. Looking in the reflection of eyeballs. Making up secret codes about domestic abuse. I saw one person saying ISIS had her and was forcing her to make more youtube videos at gunpoint. ISIS man! All the while this chick’s Youtube subscriptions have gone through the fucking roof.

Well played, Marina Joyce. Faking your own kidnapping and playing it up on your live streams convincing people you were giving coded messages crying for help. Theres only one way to get more popular than a kidnapping and thats straight up dying. So if youre not down to fake your own death, this is the next best way to trick the internet and go viral as fuck. “Pretty White Girl Kidnapped” headlines absolutely CRUSH IT on the internet, and “Pretty White Girl Kidnapped And Sending Secret Messages Via Internet Videos Crying For Help” headlines are a whole new level of viral I dont even know about yet.

I might have to fake being kidnapped too. Go straight to the motherfuckin top! Me, on the couch, doing a periscope with Stoolies like “blink twice if you’ve in danger!” I’m sitting there with Duncan blinking like a motherfucker watching the twitter followers and podcast downloads go straight to the clouds. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
