HEADLINES

NBA

As likely expected, The Cleveland Cavs are the runaway favorite in the NBA’s Eastern Conference.

I am in NO WAY saying it’s going to happen, but the Knicks at +4000 is downright preposterous. Again, I do not think it’s going to happen, but their upgrades in the off season in a weak Eastern Conference make them a team to consider on a huge flyer given those odds. Here’s the entire read via Stephen Campbell.

UFC

Normally, the only women’s fighting I get to watch is when Frank Sementa only has one hat left at the D’Jais dance contest and a blonde and a brunette start exchanging blows. However, this weekend’s bout between Holly Holm and  Valentina Shevchenko. Fox has the coverage, and according to the books Holm has the edge. Justin Hartling’s got your breakdown of all the odds via Bovada.

GOLF

Next week’s PGA Championship hits the Garden State. Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield,NJ to be exact.

I always give out Rickie Fowler (+2500) as a pick because I am rooting for him to finally break through, so it’s probably best to ignore that pick and chalk it up as impartial, but Stephen Campbell backs up his pick with a little more reasoning : “Stenson at +1600 looks like a steal. The 40-year-old put on a historic performance at the Open, outdueling wily veteran Phil Mickelson on the tournament’s final day to finish the event 20 under par. Stenson’s Sunday showing of 8-under 63 was the best final round in major championship history, and his combined score of 264 is the lowest ever in one of golf’s premier tournaments.”

PICKS

Fun Fact for the low lives and trolls of the comment section to chew on …

Last Week winner , July 8th 2-0,  June 10th winner, May 27th winner.  Also, friend of the program @SamSays09 was 2-1 as a guest picker.

That’s a 7-1 stretch since Memorial Day on picks given out via this column, but without fail there will be clueless comments. I’ve never said I’m an expert, but it proves there’s value to be found on the board every week.

Anyway, let’s try to continue that hot streak with another MLB pick.

Detroit Tigers -142

I think this is essentially a make or break series for Detroit in regards to their already slim playoff chances. They are 7.5 games back (as of 7pm Thursday) of the division lead and 4.5 out of the Wild Card race. They really need to get hot to have a prayer.

I think this is the series that could set that hot streak off.

Friday night is an absolute mismatch of pitching. The centerpiece of the Cespedes trade was Michael Fulmer, and he sure has held up his end of the bargain. At 9-2 this year with a 2.13 ERA 77 K’s and just 28 BB’s, he’s been the cog to the rotation. Opposite him is Jacob Turner going for the White Sox, who got shelled in his only start this year, and missed all of last year.

Even without JD Martinez in the lineup, and on the road, and a not so great bullpen. I like Fulmer to get the job done early as he’s done all year (last start above 4 ER’s was 5/21, and he’s had just 2 starts with 4+ ER all year).

Tigers 6-2.

-Big shout out to my man Hank… the NY move is coming. Look forward to you outshining the rest of the office like you have been since you started.
