WTF: Owner Jeffrey Lurie Personally Ordered The Re-Signing Of Sam Bradford
NJ.com – When the Eagles open training camp one week from today, on July 25, they will do so with Sam Bradford as their starting quarterback. A reality that plenty of times throughout his time with the team seemed pretty unbelievable, and at certain stretches, really unrealistic. Bradford, despite trade rumors, trade requests and a shot at free agency, remains an Eagle this time around because of the man at the top. According to a person familiar with the situation with requested anonymity, it was owner Jeffrey Lurie who was the driving force behind the team’s decision to re-sign Bradford, as opposed to top personnel executive Howie Roseman or head coach Doug Pederson. Lurie’s desire to bring Bradford back stems from his desire to remain competitive, as opposed to entering a full rebuild, which the team would have likely endured had they let Bradford walk. For Lurie, it is a sign of how he has become much more involved in the day-to-day runnings of the football operations.
Cute. Very fucking cute. Because, as history proves, NFL owners with, you know, no fucking football experience that have become increasingly involved in their team’s decisions has worked out FABULOUSLY in the past. Daniel Snyder, senile Jerry Jones, seniler Al Davis. All of them did wonders with their squads while directly calling the shots.
But this wasn’t even a football decision. Nope. This was a business move in which Lurie believed would put more wool over the eyes of Eagles fans by saying, “Hey, this isn’t a rebuild, at least we’re trying to stay competitive.” I get that. And it’s not a bad move by any means. Shit, you know me. I firmly believe Sam Bradford was/is/will be the best option at QB going forward for this squad (at least the short term). But this type of report only confirms what kind of mess the Eagles front office has become from top to bottom. From the point Howie Roseman dickishly had Tom Gamble escorted out by security to when Jeffrey Lurie fired Chip Kelly to “Take his team back” to the franchise making such drastic moves without a Player Personell guy OR College Scouting Director, it’s been mass hysteria at the Novacare Complex. They’ve been straight shooting from the hip and making it seem like it’s been all planned from Day 1. I get Lurie wants to be the HNIC of this franchise, but one major reason why this team was so steady during the Reid years was because the owner was so hands off. Granted, it was to the point where there was ALWAYS discontent in the front office (See: Joe Banner vs. Howie Roseman, Andy Reid vs. Howie Roseman, Tom Gamble vs. Howie Roseman, Chip Kelly vs. Howie Roseman…fuck…I’m no scientist but there may be a pattern here). All in all, I don’t want my owner, especially this owner, influencing football decisions on this level.
Seriously, just let newly hired Player Personell Dick Slinger Joe Douglas run this team and make every damn move. He’s honestly the only guy I would trust making ANY decision on this team.
