Walt Bell Said The New Maryland Football Facility Is The Best Sports Facility Not Just In College, But In All Of Sports
That’s what I’m talking about. ICYMI, Maryland’s offensive coordinator went on the Caleb Pressley Show to talk all things football, and it was awesome. He’s come up through the ranks of college football and is now the OC for the Terps at just 32 years old.
I’ve been blogging about the Maryland football turnaround for a while, talking about how they want to become Oregon of the East. They are pumping millions upon millions of dollars into this program, and to hear Walt talk about how the new facilities are the best in all of sports is incredible. 160 million dollars going into the project, and it’s paying off already. After Durkin was hired as the HC and assembled his staff, the 2016 recruits starting rolling in, skyrocketing Maryland up to number 39 nationally. Not bad for a first time head coach at a program coming off a 3-9 season.
The 2017 class is already ranked 23rd by Rivals, ahead of schools like Florida, Wisconsin, USC, and Penn State. And it’s all thanks to a few of the things Walt talked about in the podcast- recruiting heavy in the DMV, the state of the art facilities, motivating the kids, and working his ass off. There’s one part of the podcast where he talks about living in a locker room for 2 years, watching tape 19 hours a day. And how now he works from 5am to 10pm and sleeps on an air mattress in the office so he doesn’t have to waste an hour commuting. That’s why Maryland is going to be great again. Definitely check out the podcast if you’re a #DirtyTerp, or just enjoy listening to inside football talk. Great stuff.
