Plus-Sized Model Ashley Graham Is Not Happy With Amy Schumer Acting Like She's Too Good To Be Plus-Sized
Cosmopolitan – [Ashley Graham] On Amy Schumer taking Glamour to task for implying she is plus-size: “I can see both sides, but Amy talks about being a big girl in the industry. You thrive on being a big girl, but when you’re grouped in with us, you’re not happy about it? That, to me, felt like a double standard.”
On calling herself a model and not a plus-size model: “Just because I’m not calling myself plus-size doesn’t mean I’m not representing a woman who is … I’m giving curvy women a seat at a table that we’ve never been invited to before —a table with high-end fashion people who have never considered us beautiful.”
I could not be more team Ashley Graham here. Overall I see the point people like Pres have made previously that she’s getting extremely overhyped as a model solely for being a big girl but, on the other hand, she so completely owns it in a way I’d want from a big girl. She’s big and has a pretty face and she seems to fully recognize that she’s not necessarily a conventional beauty standard but she’s happy with herself and making the most of the opportunities that the world is DYING to throw in front of her. And she’s running with it and crushing (sorry) everything that’s given to her, from SI covers to Joe Jonas videos. I don’t see how you can do anything but respect that, she’s pushing the limits of what a big girl can do in media and being who she is.
But then you have Amy Schumer on the other hand who desperately wants to have it both ways. She wants to be perceived as The Fat Girl Who Fucks and thus gets all the other fat girls to watch her shows or buy tickets to see her thinking “She’s so like us!” But she’s busy desperately pointing out how not plus-sized she is, trying so hard to fit in with Jennifer Lawrence as she pretends they’re just a couple of average girls, and then hooking up with hunky dudes like John Cena in her movies even though that stretches the very fabrics of reality not unlike the neverending struggle of her Spanx. It’s all so dishonest. Don’t commoditize the fatties, turn your back on them, and then pull suck up public grandstanding shit like this when you’re called out for it:
Amy Schumer is the worst, #TeamGraham ride or die or get heart failure in the process. Also I’m just gonna throw this quote from Ashley Graham’s interview in here for kicks and let you guys react:
On the trolls who remark on her interracial relationship with husband Justin Ervin: “One comment on Instagram was ‘I knew a girl her size could only be with a black guy.’ I think that’s so ugly. But we talk about the fact that I’m white and he’s black all the time. I’ve seen how racist America is. It’s opened my eyes to how ignorant I have been, how white privilege has taken over a lot of my thoughts and actions because it’s just something that I take for granted.”
