FBI Not Recommending Charges Against Hillary Clinton Despite Calling Email Actions "Extremely Careless"

ABC NewsFBI Director James Comey said today his agency is not recommending that charges be brought against Hillary Clinton as a result of the year-long investigation into her use of a private email server while serving as secretary of state.

“Although there is evidence of potential violations of the statutes regarding the handling of classified information, our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case,” Comey said in a news conference.

“In looking back at our investigations into the mishandling or removal of classified information, we cannot find a case that would support bringing criminal charges on these facts,” he added.

He said that the FBI spent “a tremendous amount of work over the last year” and now the case is headed to the Department of Justice who have the ultimate say when it comes to any “prosecutive decision.”

Ahhh the Hillary Clinton email scandal. Just another one of Hil’s many charms. Another thing that makes you think, “What a warm, honest, genuine person who’s got my best interests in mind.” Today proved an interesting, albeit predictable, day in the Hillary email saga. FBI Director James Comey came out, spoke at length about how careless Hillary was with classified information, then concluded that nothing should be done about it. He concluded that the FBI will not recommend charges to the DOJ.

So, did Hillary do anything wrong? Yes. Absolutely. She sketchily ran her emails through her own private server and used her personal email for official state business (also selectively deleted many emails). These terrible decisions made classified information harmfully vulnerable:

Of the emails turned over to State, 110 emails in 52 chains contained classified information when sent or received, said Comey. Eight of those chains contained “top secret” information, 36 chains were classified as “secret” and eight were marked “confidential.”

Separately, there were 2,000 other emails that were “up-classified to make them confidential,” meaning that they were not classified when they were initially sent.

How careless was she? Mine and your gmail accounts have stronger security than her private server. Comey went as far as to say, “There is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information. For example, seven e-mail chains concerned matters that were classified at the top secret, special access program at the time they were sent and received.”

What should this mean for you? Well look. As much as I like to shit on Trump for being a ridiculous clown, it’s just rhetorical. It’s just him talking. No, he has no proven, successful record in government or foreign affairs. But he also has no proven record in fucking up government and foreign affairs. Hillary does. Next the president, the Secretary of State is oft considered the most important official representing the United States — it should, at the very least, raise an eyebrow that, while she held that position, she exercised “extremely careless” judgement. That’s the phrase that was used and that’s the phrase that will stick from here on out, regardless of the recommendation.
