Will Smith Says "Wild Wild West" Sucked And I Don't Know What The Hell He's Talking About

EW- Will Smith has established himself as one of the biggest names in Hollywood, garnering critical acclaim with dramas like Ali and The Pursuit of Happyness and breaking the box office with hit action films like Men in Black and Independence Day. But there is one starring role in Smith’s long list of films that he isn’t as proud of: Wild Wild West. The actor revealed that he took the film role during a time when he was more interested in increasing his star power than making projects he was actually passionate about. “I had so much success that I started to taste global blood and my focus shifted from my artistry to winning,” Smith said at a Cannes Lions panel on Tuesday. “I wanted to win and be the biggest movie star, and what happened was there was a lag — around Wild Wild West time — I found myself promoting something because I wanted to win versus promoting something because I believed in it.”

Are we talking about the same movie here? Because “Wild Wild West” is a goddamn classic. I still watch it whenever it’s on cable. It’s a knee slapper with hot chicks and a villain who doesn’t have legs that fucks shit up in his giant metal spider. Does that sound like a movie that sucks to you? I didn’t think so. Not to mention it has a super sexy Salma Hayek and a scene where James West escapes getting killed by a bunch of red necks by swinging away on a stretchy noose.  It really has it all. Shame on Will Smith for throwing shade at one of his own movies and a movie that I happen to adore. I don’t give a shit about critical acclaim. I don’t care about awards. I don’t care that Will Smith was trying to be the biggest movie star on the planet

Wild Wild West is AWESOME and my opinion it  will never change. Is it The Godfather? LeBron will tell you that it’s not and it isn’t. It’s not The Godfather but it is still fantastic. I still remember when it came out. I was 10 years old. Me and my best friend went and saw it immediately. Burger King had Wild Wild West toys in their kid’s meals. They even had James West-like glasses. It was the best of times. So fuck Will Smith, and I love Will Smith, but fuck Will Smith. Wild Wild West forever.
