WWE Suspends Jerry The King Lawler Indefinitely After Both Him And His Fiance Are Arrested For Domestic Violence
WREG - Memphis wrestling legend Jerry “The King” Lawler and his fiance’e, Lauryn McBride are facing domestic assault charges.
According to the WWE, Lawler has been suspended. “WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Jerry Lawler has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest.”
The 66-year-old Lawler and the 27-year-old McBride were both booked into the Shelby County Jail around 1 a.m. Friday. According to the affidavit, the two were involved in a violent confrontation at Lawler’s home on St. Nick Dr. in East Memphis. McBride claims Lawler struck her in the head and pushed her against a stove while Lawler claims McBride scratched him in the face, threw a candle at him and kicked him in the groin. McBride also alleged that Lawler got an unloaded pistol, put it on the kitchen counter and told her to kill herself. Lawler says McBride was intoxicated and claims McBride is the one who brought the pistol into the kitchen.
Lawler has been a public figure in the Memphis area for more than 40 years. His wrestling career has spanned decades and he even ran for Memphis mayor a few times.
Little good news, bad news situation on our hands here. Obviously we’ll start with the bad news- you never want to see a guy get suspended for domestic violence with his fiance. To state the obvious, King hitting his fiance in the face and possibly bringing a gun into the room and telling her to kill herself is some crazy ass shit.
But there is some good news- Jerry Lawler SUCKED at his job. I mean SUCKED. He hasn’t been good since they fired good ol JR. So domestic assault aside, this is good news for wrestling fans. All we need now is for JBL to get a drinking and driving charge and we will be another step closer to having Mauro Ranallo and Corey Graves as the top team.
King is the long, longggggg time commentator for WWE, and a wrestling legend, and this is not the way he wanted his career to end. He was involved in quite possibly the most famous feud in wrestling history with Andy Kauffman which is still talked about to this day. The fact that feud went mainstream before internet, cable, social media, and the WWF/E itself is extraordinary.
Now, Vince is a loyal guy. Vince is a forgiving guy. I do not think this is the end of Jerry Lawler in WWE. But it’s certainly not good news for him, especially seeing as WWE is a publicly traded company and ratings are at an all time low. If they needed a reason to shake things up, which they certainly have for a while because the announcing has been so dreadful for so long, King just gave them an opening. Sucks for him, but word to the wise- how about you just don’t beat up your chick and you won’t lose your job. Seems simple enough.
