If You Have An Extra 10k Lying Around You Can Buy A Used Steph Curry Mouthguard Because What Else Would You Do With The Money Right?

(Source) Fans will soon have a chance to buy a type of Steph Curry memorabilia that’s never been on the market before: a game-used mouthguard. SCP Auctions, which is based in California, said it obtained the mouthguard from a fan who picked it up off the floor near the Golden State Warriors bench after a game this season.

“Steph Curry has given more life to mouthguards than any player in history,” said Dan Imler, vice president of the auction house. “The way he flips it in and out of his mouth has become part of watching him during a game.” Imler expects the mouthguard to sell for at least $5,000.

The mouthguard is marked with the Warriors logo and Curry’s name and number. It was consigned to the auction company with a case labeled “CURRY.” A Warriors spokesperson wouldn’t comment on the auction.

In March, Curry told Jimmy Kimmel that he changes out his mouthguard every three to four games.”I just chew on it like crazy,” Curry told the comedian. “It kind of calms me down, especially when I’m at the free throw line.”

Auction houses have sold off similarly odd items before. SCP sold Muhammad Ali’s mouthpiece from his final bout for $6,700 in 2013. Sotheby’s sold Ty Cobb’s dentures for $7,475 in 1989. A piece of gum chewed by Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Luis Gonzalez sold for $10,000 in an online auction in 2002.

First of all, this is PEAK Rovell. This is the shit he absolutely lives for. Everyone has their thing they get out of bed for in the morning. Money, job you actually like, kids, whatever. The thing that drives you. Well this is it for Rovell. Random sports memorabilia that no one really gives a fuck about but everyone is like “huh, that’s kind of interesting, I guess”. That’s Rovell, giving us the facts no one really needs but everyone finds kind of interesting in a weird random way. And I’m happy it is because without him how the hell would we ever know that someone is going to potentially buy another man’s used mouth guard for over 5 grand.

Now as for the mouth guard, the person who buys this is totally going to chew on it right? There’s just no doubt in my mind this sick fuck is going to buy this mouthguard and wear it. I just don’t see any other alternative. They can pretend they won’t, they can say they’ll use it in their sports memorabilia collection, but come on, everyone here knows the truth. If there is pre-crime, we need it for the person that is about to spend a fairly decent amount of money on a fucking used mouthguard. That’s the guy we should be worried about.

Props to the auction house PR guy. It can’t be easy to make it seem like this is actually a cool thing.
